When you Hunt the Sandhills Experience, use an Enfield!

Dear Friend,

Picture
Prime upland game habitiat

Picture yourself in the wide open spaces of the Nebraska Sandhills.  Sand dunes frozen in time by a waving carpet of tall grasses and wildflowers, dotted with motts of leadplant, yucca and wild rose.  Freshly harvested corn and alfalfa fields lay in the valley.  The air is crisp and clean. Autumn's golden colors fill the vista as you look across the valley at daybreak. You are ready to hunt the ancient prairie chicken or the sharp-tailed grouse; the majestic mule deer or elusive whitetail deer; or the wild dog of America, the coyote.

You'll get off to a great start

Gettin up early...worth it!
when you stay as a guest in our home!  Get a great night's sleep in your comfortable, private room with only the lullaby of the coyotes' howl.  Enjoy a hot, hearty breakfast while visiting with Terry Enfield, your guide and driver.  He has lived all of his life right here and hunting is his passion. He will take you where the game is. With nearly 12,000 acres of hunting grounds to cover, your guilde will thrill you all day with his expert driving skills in the rough and wild country you will encounter. After a morning of outdoor adventure, come home to a hot lunch and a little R&R. Maybe take a break and hunt for flint arrow and spear heads. This valley abounds with these as this has been a favored hunting ground for hundreds of years. Then, back to the hunt. After watching the most beautiful un-obstructed view of a sunset, come home to a delicious home-style dinner.

"An enjoyable experience... Terry is one of the best spotters of game that I have been around and had vast knowledge of our prey.  He knew the terrain and how to move through without disturbing the game nor the land...I really had  good time and will do it again in a heartbeat...there was so much excitement and I want to relive it again and again."

"Your hospitality and effort in making our hunt successful was more than expected."

Terry with One Big Ol' Turkey

Picture
Terry shot this beautiful Tom Turkey on the ranch in April of 2010. He was so old that the breastbone was almost entirely hardened.  It weighted 20 pounds!  We dressed 12 pounds of delicious meat from it. That's a lot of turkey!

So, if you'd like to do some upland game bird hunting, let us know.  We'll take you out and see if we can scare up some more great turkeys like this one.  We have pheasant, grouse and prairie chicken too.

Gene with a Nice Mule Deer Buck!

Picture
The 2010 Deer Season was great fun for Gene Garner at Enfield Ranch! He had an either/or permit and filled it in one day with this very nice Mulie. He had the venison processed by Don Johnson in Grant, NE.  He is having the trophy head mounted too.

"It was a nice tall 4X4 Muley with a kicker" -Terry

"Thank you very much for the wonderful time, I truly enjoyed it...My Best Regards" -
D. Eugene Garner.

More than hunting

is in store for you at the Enfield Ranch.  We are a modern-day working certified angus beef cattle ranch too.  If you want, you can experience what it's like to work on a real cattle ranch by helping with feeding, fence repairs, working cattle on horseback and whatever else Terry has going on.

Are you a hiker or avid photographer looking for a new world to explore? We are situated in one of the most unique and naturally diverse ecosystems in Nebraska: the Sandhills.  Formed from ancient sand dunes sitting atop one of the largest fresh water aquifers in the world, the Sandhills have desert, tall grasslands, shortgrass prairie and wetland plant and animal communities all in one place.  Plus, there are plants and animals unique to the Sandhills for you to experience.  Terry and his father Virgil worked, with advice from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and University of Nebraska at Lincoln, for many years to develop a planned grazing system that benefits livestock and wildlife alike.  You'll find an abundance of non-game prairie species to enjoy.

HOW TO GET HERE!

You can fly in to Denver International Airport (D.I.A), Denver, Colorado, then fly into North Platte, NE and we will pick you up there. Or you could rent a car at D.I.A. and drive up to Nebraska to Ogallala. Take highway 26 North to Lake McConaughy (where we can also fish if you'd like), then continue on to Highway 92/61, 35 miles to Arthur. Continue on Highway 92 three miles East to the sign for the Enfield Ranch Company (on your right). Turn South on the first gravel road for three miles.  Turn left on the first gravel road under the power lines and at the NRD tree planting award sign (most of the trees you'll see on the ranch were hand planted by our family) for the Enfield Ranch 21.  We are in the second house on that road.  If you become lost, just ask anyone for directions to the Enfield Ranch or call (308) 764-2477.  Please call ahead so someone will be at the house to greet and assist you.  Thank you!
